Archery Etiquette

The following is a list of DO’s and DON’Ts, which are considered good manners and archers etiquette so everyone can enjoy archery.

A Good Archer:

Arrives early to ensure they get placed with an experienced group. All of Woodstock Archery Club’s shoot start at 10am sharp

Will ask your parent or guardian to register you and find your shooting partners.

Won’t forget to leave time for their exercises and warm up shots.

Will always help to put out the equipment (score sheets, target covers, target faces etc) and put it away.

Won’t not walk up and down the line comparing scores.

Doesn’t offer advice unless asked.

Doesn’t touch another archer's equipment without their permission.

Doesn’t talk in a loud voice while others are shooting.

Doesn’t pester other archers or scorers for their scores.

Does not talk to another competitor who obviously prefers to be silent.

Will be careful around all archery equipment, archers have a great amount of money invested in their equipment.

Does not leave litter on the archery ground.

Stays well behind the waiting line when you're not shooting.

Doesn’t talk to anyone on the line and tries not to distract him or her.

Tries not to join or leave the shooting line when the person next to you is at full-draw.

Will be patient and wait for the people doing the scoring and pulling of the arrows, always remember to stand to the side when someone is pulling arrows.

Will always return to behind the red line and hang up their bow after they have shot.

Rules

These rules are to be followed at any club function. The archer must know these rules prior to shooting a 3-D sanctioned shoot. These rules are a combination of both the Woodstock Archery Club and The Federation of Canadian Archers.

Any rule in RED is a major offence and could result in disqualification and could be suspended for up to one year or permanently.

If the arrows are being scored, don't touch them or the target until the scores have all been taken, otherwise your score won't be counted.

No running there is arrows sticking out of targets and can cause serious damage. Always carry arrows with points down or in a quiver.Absolutely No Horseplay on Woodstock Archery controlled property this means before, during, and after the shoot.

Be sure of your target a shot from the wrong lane or at the wrong target will result in a no score for that target.

Cheating in any form will not be tolerated and violator will be asked to leave. This is one rule that will cause a disqualification. NO WARNINGS!

Shooting will be in a rotation where every ones takes a turn to shoot first.

3-D targets are not to be roughhoused with this includes climbing on or throwing them when setting up and putting them away they are expensive and have to be handled with care.

Score Keepers will assume control of the group they will take control of any Cub, Pre Cub, and Peewee shooters.

Listen quietly to the instructions of the shoot director and follow them to the letter safety depends on it.

Safety is the number one concern.

Responsibilities of the Parents of any Cub, Pre Cub, and Peewee Archer

Parents shall make sure that the above lists of etiquette and rules is either read by, or read to the archers prior to the 3-D shoots.

Parents are to accompany the archers during any club function other than Canbow.

Parents are to make sure the archers arrive early to register, and to find a group. If the parent can’t accompany the archers it is up to them to find someone to do so. This could be a guardian or a club member. The people at the registration table won’t have time to do so.

Parents are encouraged to come and help with the archers it could be cooking lunch, keeping score, or just keeping control of the archers before, between rounds and after the shoot is over. It is most usually when we are not shooting is when they get busy.

3-D shoots are a competition and we have a great number of shooters that are very serious about their shooting. We do this to have fun and improve our selves by having top shooters come to our club.

We follow the Federation of Canadian Archers rules.

Thanks and have fun.
